On June 21, Philippine Trade and Industry Secretary Pascual led a delegation to Singapore to meet with TikTok representatives to discuss e-commerce cooperation.

Pascual said that TikTok has played an active role in empowering Philippine micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The cooperation between the Department of Trade and Industry and TikTok is a "key step" in the development of Philippine e-commerce, which will greatly promote the growth and development of the Philippine digital market and benefit businesses, consumers and the overall economy.

During the talks, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry thanked TikTok for its generous support as the main sponsor of the upcoming first cashless expo, which is a result of the cooperation between the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, the Central Bank of the Philippines and the private sector. The expo will work with the Department of Agriculture to promote digital payments in the agricultural and trade sectors.

At the same time, the Philippine delegation also stated that TikTok is a proactive partner in the development of e-commerce in the Philippine government, and the Department of Trade and Industry appreciates TikTok's Security Enforcement Tool (TSET), a platform designed to promote consumer protection. TSET is a portal established for verified government agencies and law enforcement representatives to securely request and monitor the progress of content removal.

Minister Pascual said the close collaboration between the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines and TikTok aims to empower small and medium-sized enterprises, revitalize communities, and expand market access, especially in rural areas. The two sides also discussed the possibility of collaborating to establish a content creator academy to cultivate Filipino creative talents and pave the way for deeper digital integration in the country.

In addition, the head of the Department of Trade and Industry also praised TikTok for its quick action in response to the accountability order issued by the Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry regarding the sale of e-cigarette products. To date, TikTok has deleted 570 user content and 337 related products, demonstrating its commitment to complying with local laws and regulations. It is reported that TikTok was launched in the Philippines in May 2017 and TikTok Shop was launched in the Philippines in April 2022.
