A 20% Tax Will Be Levied Starting Next Month

According to Shopee, in accordance with Brazilian government regulations, from 0:00 on August 1, 2024 (local time), a 20% import tax will be imposed on orders imported into Brazil with a value of no more than US$50. The updated Brazilian tax policy is as follows:



For orders with a purchase amount of ≤ US$50, buyers are required to pay 20% import tax and 17% goods and services circulation tax (ICMS);

For orders with a purchase amount of > US$50, buyers are required to pay 60% import tax and 17% goods and services circulation tax (ICMS), and the import tax can enjoy a reduction of US$20.

After consultation with Brazilian government departments, the platform will protect the interests of sellers and the consumption experience of buyers by prepaying taxes and pre-declaring customs while ensuring compliance. The specific policies are as follows:



1. For orders generated from 0:00 on July 27, 2024 (local time), buyers will bear import taxes and other applicable taxes.

Starting from 0:00 (local time) on July 27, 2024, a new payment item for import tax will be added to the front-end settlement page. Buyers need to prepay import tax and other applicable taxes* to successfully generate orders. Please be informed.



2. For orders generated before 0:00 (local time) on July 27, 2024, the platform will complete customs declaration before 0:00 (local time) on August 1. Therefore, these orders will be subject to the tax policy before August 1, that is, for orders with a purchase amount of less than or equal to US$50, buyers do not need to pay import tax; for orders with a purchase amount of more than US$50, buyers will pay 60% of import tax*.

It should be noted that the import tax in Brazil will be borne by the buyer. Sellers do not need to adjust prices by themselves.
