According to Thai media reports, TikTok Shop has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the country's Ministry of Commerce, aiming to increase the contribution of SMEs to GDP from 35% to 40% by 2027.

Napintorn Srisunpang, Deputy Minister of Commerce of Thailand, said: "We see the potential of TikTok users in Thailand, where there are currently 43 million users, most of whom spend time on the platform."

Thais spend an average of 8 hours a day on the Internet, and the number of Internet users nationwide has reached 63 million, accounting for 88% of the total population.

According to recent surveys, about 67% of Internet users buy products online.

The MoU focuses on three key areas: supporting local businesses to seize digital economy opportunities, expanding learning and self-development channels on TikTok Shop, and building communities to cultivate and develop the smart economy.

The company plans to train and improve digital marketing skills for approximately 7,000 SMEs by 2024 through workshops tailored specifically for Thai SMEs.

Previous reports have shown that Southeast Asian SMEs have seen revenue growth of nearly 50% by selling products and services on TikTok. This is an important opportunity for Thai SMEs to accelerate learning and master new skills, such as live streaming on the TikTok Shop platform.

Data from TikTok Live in Thailand shows that in 2023, 700,000 Thai creators will live stream on the platform every month.
