Shopee's Suspected Monopoly Case Enters the Review Stage

According to foreign media reports, Indonesia's KPPU has obtained two pieces of evidence that Shopee is suspected of express delivery monopoly, and the case has entered the investigation stage.
KPPU investigator Maduseno said after a hearing at the KPPU office yesterday (June 11): "Two pieces of evidence already exist, so the case regarding the suspected monopoly of Shopee's delivery service is entering the investigation stage."
He said that the witnesses involved in the case have a relationship with Shopee.
Since 2021, KPPU has been monitoring signs of suspected monopoly in Shopee's delivery service. The whole process starts with signs, finding preliminary evidence, monitoring and investigation.
At present, the investigation into the suspected monopoly of Shopee's delivery service has entered the review stage.
KPPU investigator Denny Julian Risakotta explained that the investigation process takes a long time to close the case.
"We are very cautious in the investigation process, checking evidence and collecting data," he said. He stressed that without sufficient evidence, the trial process would not be possible.
Denny said that KPPU believes that Shopee has a monopoly and dominates the logistics services of e-commerce platforms.
"What is certain is that Shopee's policy no longer allows consumers to choose the courier company," Denny said. "So consumers are losing a choice."
He said Shopee's move is bad for consumers, sellers on the platform and other logistics services.
